Hopefully, there comes a time in our various careers, when all the cool stuff we’ve ever produced seems unremarkable, compared to a current omni project!
Producing the “recently announced” branding video for Port Tampa Bay was just that for Shooting Stars!
“The port was so interesting as a subject matter” said producer, Marilyn Samaha. “Shooting vast landscapes, massive ships, constant motion, sunrises, sunsets, arrivals and departures, textures, machines, industries and it’s people! It was an all inspiring project to be part of.”
Shooting Stars began the project with creative and scriptwriting, refining it for Port Tampa Bay’s new branding message. With the approved script, the task began of capturing needed visuals for the port’s story. Production schedules and crew management were critical, not to mention synchronizing schedules of every type of vessel know to man.
Matching camera crews with the shooting environment was key to capturing the exact shot at the exact time needed. Flying over massive container ships coming under the Skyway Bridge at sunrise, floating over the decks of sparkling cruise ships with aerial cameras, interviewing community leaders, being near or on the water constantly involved multiple crews at multiple locations. “To capture the shots we needed, we used a custom built Octo-Copter with a Red Camera, time lapse photography with the Canon 5D Mark IIIs, aerial RC Drones with Go Pro Hero 3+s and the amazing Sony F55,” said John Samaha.
The video of Port Tampa Bay was finished in our Avid Nitris DX editing suite, seamlessly melding together multiple cameras and formats. 3-D and 2-D graphics were created to illustrate the direct shipping lanes from Mexico, Central and South America ports. Our region is fortunate to have such an important asset and economic driver.
